Juan Mata believes he will be able to adapt seamlessly to English football, and is being helped with the transition by Fernando Torres.
The 23-year-old winger arrived from Valencia on Wednesday after speaking regularly with Spanish international team-mate Torres, who was the same age when he moved from Atletico Madrid to Liverpool.
Now Mata is focusing on settling to life in England, and hopes to be involved in this afternoon's match against Norwich City at Stamford Bridge.
'I am fit and ready if the coach says so, I was training in Valencia and have trained here, so it is up to the coach,' he said.
'I know English football is a physical game, but I am sure I can adapt and get physically stronger if I need to. We have seen players like David Silva manage it, and I am similar to him so I am sure I will be fine here.
'There have been some Spanish players who have done very well in England, at the top teams, and I hope I can follow in their paths while I am with Chelsea.
'English football is physical but also I have my own qualities and am sure I will be able to use those to my advantage to make myself a success in England.
'English football is always on TV in Spain and I watched a lot of last season's Premier League.
'It is a great move for me and I think I can do well here, and grow as a player and as a person in a new country.'
Asked how he felt about the transfer, Torres told Chelsea TV he was delighted to see his international colleague join the club.
'It's great news, I've been playing with him a long time in the national team and I know him very well,' said the 27-year-old. 'As soon as I knew Chelsea showed some interest in him I was sending him texts and talking almost every day. He had other offers from different clubs because he's a great player, but from the first day he told me he wanted to come to Chelsea.
'I know what he can bring to the team, and I think he is going to be a great player for us. As soon as he is involved in the routine of the team it won't be a problem to change from Spanish to English football, because a player like him with his quality and sharpness will find it easy.
'It's great news for Chelsea who have signed two great young players but with the experience to play in the Premier League. hopefully that can help Oriol be very soon in the national team.
'I'm trying to help them the same as the players that were here when I arrived helped me, and I'm trying to help with the small things you need in a new city and a new country because it's not easy.'
Manager Andre Villas-Boas explained on Thursday he felt it was probably too soon for Mata to start, but the new man will be expected to be on the bench this afternoon.
